Come Be Lonely on X-mas Eve!

Every year on Christmas eve I am so bored. All the transplants go home to see their families, all the bars close, there are no showz, life is borrrrring. This year, I decided to do something about it! If you:

(a) Don't celebrate Christmas
(b) Are too broke to fly home
(c) h8 ur family
(d) forget where you're supposed to go

I have a solution for you! Come to Bruar Falls and dance your ass off (and drink your brain off) to awesome records being spun by Eric Lastname and Rock 'n Roll James E late into the night.

An Open Love Letter To The Besties:

As some of you have undoubtedly heard, my favorite twee-pop band The Besties are playing their last show ever on Sunday at Bruar Falls. This is very sad news. The Besties are a band that means a lot to me... (warning I'm about to get mad emotional all over y'all) they came into my life at a time when I really needed them and touched me with a little song called "79 Lorimer":

This song is simply the best love song to Brooklyn ever, even better than everything Jay-Z has written, if you can believe that. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, reminds me of why I live this rock 'n roll lifestyle:

lyrics transcribed to the best of my ability.... don't judge if they're off

it's 18 degrees out, no heat inside this factory
lookin' at your breath in the kitchen, wonderin' what you're gonna do
we'll put on a pot of tea, scratch zeros in the frost on the windows
there's a snow fight on the roof, get up there!

We tell our mothers we're doing fine
what will they think of number 79?

one time for the bikes in the hallway
two times for the lights across the way
three times for the metal band that plays upstairs
four times for the kids getting crazy
five times for the Lorimer JMZ
six times for the last good night we'll say this year!

it's 92 degrees out, no air inside this factory
sweatin' lookin' at the flies in the kitchen, wonderin' what you're gonna do
linger at the freezer, make an alien voice into the fan
take your ice pop to the roof, we're all up there!

well it's not a house, but for now it's our home
with painted concrete floors and windows that don't close
all we ever say is how we want to leave
but where would we go next year for new year's eve?
we know it's the best except for when it's the worst
it's punk rock heaven and it's hell on earth

Yeah, c'mon, don't you just love that shit? "It's punk rock heaven but it's hell on earth" is maybe the best quote ever. Anyone who has ever lived in a punk house knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Well, the wonderland of 79 Lorimer is no more (79 Lorimer was actually where I saw The Besties for the first time) and sadly, the same will go for The Besties very soon. I have seen The Besties a ton of times and I'm maybe their most obsessive fan. They're charming, good looking, and the songs are pure feel-good pop. How can a band that has a song called "Man Vs. Wild" that starts with the lyric "you know Bear, I could really use a tip" not be amazing?

Besties, I want you to know how much you mean to me! I'll never stop jamming out to your hits, and I'll never forget what you did for me in the winter of 2007.

Tally 4ever, y'all.
